Katholische Gemeinde „São Francisco de Assis“

The congregation exists in this form since 2006. It was established by the Portuguese Mission, which was founded in the 1970s for the guest workers at that time. Today, the community has about 4500 members and covers the area of many dean’s offices of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.

We think it is very important to reach out to people in their environments. As a result, we visit people at home, in their pubs, at their workplaces, in their clubs, or at other places where it is possible to make contact and talk.

A Portuguese-language worship service is held in every community at least once per month; in Ulm there are even three services per month.

Groups and circles like choirs, bible and prayer groups, ministrants, children and youth groups, women’s and men’s groups. There are also folkloristic instrumental and dance groups.

We prepare members for the first communion and the ”Profissão de Fé“ (traditional Portuguese festive confirmation of the first communion before the congregation). Our preparation courses for baptism and marriage are also very well-attended. Our offer includes further training for catechists, lecturers, and youths.

All important dates, reports on life in the congregation, and spiritual encouragement are published in our newsletter ”Em Frente“, which is sent to all members of the congregation.
